Here’s a sneak peak at Brooke and Evan’s incredibly fun and equally gorgeous wedding out at Urban Studios in the Pearl District. The wedding was Hawaiian themed with some of the best food of the summer! The couple was a blast to work with and it was great to look out at the guests and see a sea of hawaiian shirts during the ceremony!

Meggan and Bill

July 19, 2010

When I met Meggan for the first time, it only took me about 5 seconds to know that we were going to get along phenomanally.  Her constant smile and cheerfulness make her the kind of person that you want to be around non-stop. She loves to talk (just like me!) so our conversation was never dull and I felt like we’d been friends for years by the time we finished wedding photos.  When the maid of honor mentioned in her toast that Meggan had watched Father of the Bride (my favorite movie of all time) 15 times the week of her wedding, I decided that we could very easily be best friends!

She was an amazing bride – so completely relaxed the entire day and obviously enjoying every second of it.  Bill, her husband-to-be was just as easy to work with and they were so cute as a couple that I wanted to just fold them up and keep them in my pocket! I’m so excited for them as they get started on their new adventure and so very thankful that I got to be a part of their big day!

A Gorge-ous Wedding

July 16, 2010

Forgive the bad pun – but yes, Andrew and Melissa’s wedding was both out in the Gorge and absolutely GORGEOUS! When we pulled up to the Wind Mountain Ranch in Stevenson, WA  –  I knew immediately that it was going to be a good day. Everything about the day was perfect. I had to focus extra hard during the ceremony because if I wasn’t careful, I could have easily missed something important while being entranced by the breathtaking views in every direction! Melissa had one of the longest and most beautiful veils ever, and the wind cooperated amazingly, giving us perfectly timed gusts that sent it flowing behind her as we walked through the meadow for pictures. It was a great trip to Stevenson, and hopefully not my last. Andrew and Melissa – you guys were a blast to work with and I can’t wait to show you the rest of your pictures!

I’ve known Elizabeth for quite a while, and let me tell you, she’s left quite a trail of broken hearted guys behind her. You see, Elizabeth is one of those girls you just want to be around – beautiful, fun, genuine, kind, and funny. It’s no wonder that almost every guy she’s met has thought she was the bees knees. Even with so many suitors, I knew it was going to take a very special guy to fill her heart, and when I met Mark, I knew he was the one she’d been waiting for.

After almost 2 years of long distance dating, several trips from London to Oregon and Oregon to London, and many phone calls across the pond, Mark and Elizabeth finally made it official out at a beatuful ceremony at Beckenrdige Vineyards. It was a very fun day and a blast to watch Mark’s English family get to know Elizabeth’s Oregonian side. I’m absolutely thrilled for these two and can’t imagine a more perfect match.

I spent this last weekend just outside Tahoe City, California shooting the type of wedding that would make almost any photographer drool.  Josh and Amy finally made it official and they did it in one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been. We had their first meeting at the Painted Rock Lodge in Olympic Valley - just a mile or two down the road from the Squaw Valley 1960 Olympic Village. I took the the bridal party down to a park overlooking the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe – arguably the prettiest lake in the country. We even managed our way on to one of the ski lifts at the breathtaking Squaw Valley Ski Resort, and then finished things up at the Squaw Valley Chapel for an intimate and gorgeous ceremony. It was a wedding that I’ll never forget, and a weekend that made coming back to rainy old Portland a little tough. Here’s a link to Josh and Amy’s slideshow at alyssajul.com

When I picked up the phone to call Summer and tell her that my due date was only a week away from her wedding day I was totally expecting massive amounts of panic to exude from the other end of the line. I had even prepared myself to help her pick a different photographer to shoot her wedding. After all, I couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to take the chance that their wedding photographer could go into labor in the middle of their ceremony!  Quite amazingly, she wasn’t phased in the least! At first I didn’t think she had understood the implications of what I had just said… I’d would be shooting her wedding while 39 weeks pregnant!

So, first and foremost I ’ve got to thank Summer and Eric for their confidence in me and their willingness to let me waddle through their big day!  Just to be safe, I brought lots of back-up photog help, and had about 10 different contingiency plans in case my little guy decided that he wanted to share his birthday with Summer and Eric’s anniversary. Luckily, he decided to wait a while.

It was one of the most gorgeous March days in Portland that I can remember. The temperature was flirting with 70 degrees (which was a good thing because the last peice of clothing in my closet that still fit was a summer dress), the sun was beaming through the tops of the downtown buildings, and the entire city’s worth of people were out on the streets enjoying the amazing and uncharacteristic weather.

Bride, groom, wedding party, and family were all a blast to work with as we photographed our way through the Embassy Suites, the Portland Streets, and Waterfront Park. The groomsmen were all basketball finatics (coaches, players, and/or enthusiasts) and even brought a ball along. At first, I was a little worried that they’d be too distracted by March Madness scores and their impromptu “three-man-weave” drills to care about pictures, but when their turn in front of the camera came, the fell into line quickly.

The day was a hit! The ceremony and reception were a blast, the food was amazing, and Summer was stunning! Thanks to my hubs for carrying my bag all day and making sure I was hydrated. Thanks to my amazing photographer friend Sara Gray for second shooting. Thanks to Amy my new sister who spent the whole day learning to second shoot. Thanks to the long list of photographers who agreed to be on call in case my baby came. But most of all, thanks again to Summer and Eric for being so gracious, kind, and easy to work with!

I’ve posted a few fun shots from the day below, and if you’re intereseted in seeing more, Here’s a link to their slideshow
